The Ardeche Gorge in South Central France...Absolutely jaw-dropping.  Ansel Adams would be hard pressed to do this place justice, let alone me.  Believe it or not, the best scenery, caves, etc I saw were on the kayak trip I took from Vallon to St. Matin.  I did not bring my camera for fear of it getting wet, I'll think twice next time as it was an easy paddle.

A spelunker or archeologist would go absolutely nuts here as there's so much to see.  Even the cliffs themselves are riddled with fossils, not to mention thousands & of caves.  Famous cave drawings have been discovered in the area, anyone can go see them.  The place is pretty touristy, the good news being I found more English-speakers than I normally would in such a remote area, my French needs a lot of practice.
